Thoughts and devotions from my lakeside journal...
Light on the Lake

From the chair in my bedroom, looking across the deck, past the birdhouse, and under my neighbor's trees I can see the main lake.  But today, today something on the deck catches my eye - light is moving, shimmering on the ceiling of the screen porch. It is light reflecting off the surface of the cove.

The lake, touched by the glory of the sun gives the light it's own signature...bright, fluid, mobile; it dances and reflects all around the porch.

God's kingdom is like light shining on the lake.  The light touches the water.  Some of it penetrates to the depths and some of it is changed and reflected.

The light is the warmth and grace of God. The lake is His children.  When the light shines on them and penetrates, it changes them to be more like Him.  And the changes are reflected and passed on.

Yes, God's grace transforms us and is transformed to something that we pass on; absorbed, reflected, mobile, multiplied.   Yes, God's kingdom is like light shining on the lake.

All is welcome

Today I am waiting on God...just waiting.  Open, an empty vessel.  What will he offer to fill me?

This is God's world

Everything in it is His

and everything is welcomed, wanted, loved.

He wants me to learn to welcome it all.

I cannot select who comes to my bird feeder.

I put out the food and wild things come

songbirds, brightly colored birds, big birds, even ducks

squirrels come

crows come

I cannot welcome them selectively

To shoo one away will scare away all the others

So I welcome them all

This is God's world

Everything in it is His

and everything is welcomed, wanted, loved.

God wants me to welcome it all.

Everything beckons

Everything about this place invites me to take a moment - to experience just being - to know the joy of being part of God's world.

...over there, dry leaves rustle.  Something is moving in the woods.

...all around, birdsong.  Too many different songs to count; endless, overlapping, a constant presence.

...right here, the sun shining on my shoulder; inviting me to turn toward its' warmth.

...across the cove, the puff of a breeze; stirring the trees and moving the surface of the water, creating soft whispering sounds.

...and once in a while, a plop; a turtle has given up his spot on a log to cool off in the lake

This is always here.  God has arranged it just so - for His pleasure and for ours - if we would but notice.

Yes, everything about this place beckons me.  It is like God is whispering, "Come, spend a moment with me."
