Cards and Other Artistic Endeavors

I have always loved creating things and my first love is quilting...which also involves cutting and arranging bits and pieces to make something beautiful.  Papercrafting was a natural extension of my love for mixing colors, patterns and textures.  When I craft, I think of what author Tim Tyson said about taking the pieces of our past and putting them together to create something new and beautiful (paraphrased).

I started my papercrafting journey in the late nineties when my daughter was approaching her high school graduation.  I wanted to create a scrapbook that told her life story.  At that time, scrapbooking supplies were hard to get.  Almost everything came from Utah where modern scrapbooking evolved out of the Mormon's quest to understand and document their heritage.  To overcome the scarcity of supplies, I started seeing everything in terms of it's usefulness as page elements and embellishments: sewing supplies, stationary items, silk flowers, to name a few.  My Xyron and Fiskars rotary paper cutter were my best friends.  A year and a half later, I had four 12x12 albums, was teaching scrapbooking at my local Michael's store, and had been interviewed about the growing popularity of scrapbooking for a newspaper article that was published in the Raleigh News and Observer (see below).

Since then, my papercrafting has extended to include card-making and mixed-media art journaling.

My inspiration comes from everywhere - but mostly from things I see and from other people on a creative journey.  Many thanks to those who have inspired me over the years.  I hope by sharing some of my work, I can help others to explore their creative drive and free their imagination.
