Last week we drove to Indiana and passed through Winston-Salem where I saw several of these billboards for Neil Sedaka's upcoming concert.  I fell in love with the look of the poster and it became the inspiration for a couple of Christmas cards.

The first one features Santa and his reindeer.  The color scheme came from the poster - pale greenish blue, with kraft, brown and subdued reds for accents.

For this card I used Hero Arts "Winter Trees" and stamped it to make two background panels.  To make it look a little more subdued, I sponged some walnut dye ink over the images to create brown "snow".  The Santa and sleigh, the trees, the pine cones and foliage are all dies from Impression Obsession.  The holly leaves mixed in with the foliage were punched with a very old punch (see detailed image).

Getting Serious About Christmas Cards

18 Nov 2013 - Billboard Inspiration

Inspiration is all around...

I love the retro-shaped, "Be Merry, Be Bright" which is even stamped and embossed in a retro-looking font.

The second card is simpler but uses the same color scheme and another DEER.  The dies (birches, birds, and evergreen tree) are from Impression Obsession.  The Deer die is by Taylored Expressions (isn't he handsome?) and is part of a set called "Birch Tree Accessories".

The words "Merry Christmas" are from a clear stamp set I found in the $1 bin at a craft store and I used Stampin' Up's "Modern Label" to create the word banner.  The pale-greenish-blue background paper is from Cosmo Cricket's Jolly Days Mini Deck

Inspiration really is all around us and it' free.

Next time you see something you really like, capture it somehow - cell phone cameras are handy for this - then when you've identified why you like it - use it.

I'd love to hear what about something that has inspired you and you can use the from below to contact me.

Happy Holidays!
